My Story

My name is Alexandra Tolmacheva Nguyen based in San Diego, California. My long journey to UX/UI design commenced in my native Russia where I graduated from school of Art and Design and started my professional career as a print designer.

In 2004, I found my way to join my family in California where I have been continuing to update my skills and be certified with new technologies. Even though I enjoyed being a graphic designer, I always wanted to make a leap from print to web design. I started taking web related projects (creating landing pages, interactive banners) and learning coding. A couple of years later, I was hired as UI/Visual designer at Abgent.

While creating webpages and UI elements, I always thought about logic and structure behind the elements user actually see and interact with. Over time, I got deep interest to UX/UI design and start to learn about UX research and design validation. Soon, I’ve got a chance to work on my first UX/UI project and created a responsive website “MegaPoints” reward program. As far UX design is a process, I am constantly in process to learning about UX. Recently, I’ve got training from Bloc to enrich my skills and knowledges about UX design. Creating design based on research and data, makes process meaningful and fascinating to me.

Other Interests

Human anatomy and facial features always fascinate and help me to excel in portrait drawing. My favorite media is acrylic, and I draw a portrait on a “wood doll” (matroshka). I do pay attention to details a lot, and It renders my drawing like a snapshot.
